Attempts two shots in blowout loss
Shukurov recorded two shots (zero on goal) in Tuesday's 5-0 loss to Portugal.
Analysis: Uzbekistan looked overmatched against Portugal from start to finish, but Shukurov was one of the few players who posed a threat from his midfield role. Shukurov has two shots and one chance created in his two World Cup starts, but as a central midfielder, his chance to crack the scoresheet remains fairly low, limiting his overall upside.
Outplayed in midfield battle
Shukurov had one cross (zero accurate) and one chance created in Wednesday's 3-1 defeat versus Colombia.
Analysis: Shukurov had a difficult outing in Wednesday's 1-3 defeat to Colombia, contributing one inaccurate cross and zero interceptions across his time on the pitch as the deepest midfielder in Uzbekistan's 3-5-2 system, unable to impose himself physically or technically against a Colombian midfield trio of Jhon Arias, Gustavo Puerta and Jefferson Lerma that consistently dominated the tempo. The midfielder worked hard without the ball and contributed to Uzbekistan's defensive organization in the first half, but was bypassed too often in the second period when Colombia stepped up their pressing intensity after the break. His discipline and positioning from deep will remain important for Uzbekistan's defensive structure in the remaining group games, but a stronger individual contribution in possession will be needed if his side are to compete more effectively against Portugal.
